Gallery recommendations for this Friday

This Friday in downtown Fort Lauderdale there will be two great openings I highly recommend. They’re relatively close so make sure to check them both out.

Set to Manual is an exhibition of works in diverse media by artists from Girls’ Club collection and beyond, characterized by intensive hand manufacture.

Works by more than twenty-five artists including: Vija Celmins, Ellen Gallagher, Pepe Mar, Annette Messager, Carol Prusa, Amparo Sard, Michelle Segre, Kiki Smith, Jen Stark, Jessica Stockholder, Nancy Spero & others.

The opening runs from 7-10pm. Girl’s Club is located at:

117 NE 2nd Street
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301

For more information visit www.girlsclubcollection.org

The next is the grand opening of the 18 Rabbit Gallery

This new gallery will be showing exciting high quality contemporary art. Check out their page by clicking the logo above to see some of their artists and get info on upcoming events and programs like calls for entries and art classes. Their outside wall will also be featuring a mural by local writers MSG Cartel.

The opening runs from 6-10pm. The gallery is located at 18 NW 1st Ave, just off Andrews Ave and Broward Blvd in the heart of Fort Lauderdale.

While I always recommend going to opening receptions galleries are open more than just the night of the reception, so if you can’t make the reception or just don’t like the commotion of those opening nights you can always pass by on any other day they are open.

At the Norton Art Museum this Fall

William Kentridge: Five Themes at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach

November 7 through January 17th.

A comprehensive look at the work of South African artist William Kentridge. Kentridge is arguably one of the most important and profound artists working today. His work deals with themes of imperialism and apartheid in his native country. The show will feature his animated films, drawings, prints, and more.

In this artist’s opinion, this is a show worth making the trek up to West Palm for.
