This Friday will be our Strathmore Artist Trading Card show. Artists were given 2.5″x3.5″cards and asked to do up to 6 pieces to go on display in the store. In addition to that at the opening reception this Friday night from 7-8pm we will be hosting a trading card party with the artists and anyone else interested. You can trade off your miniature pieces of art for others. It’s not too late to participate in the trading party! Just come by the store and pick up a pack of Strathmore trading cards. This show will be held at:

In addition to this event 3 of our employees will have a group show on the second floor gallery at the Sailboat Bend Artists Lofts in downtown this Saturday from 7-11pm. There will be shows going on in other galleries as well as open studios so there will be a lot of opportunities to meet some of the local artists and have a good time. Refreshments will be served. This is a free event.

All three artists come from varied backgrounds and are working in a wide range of styles and mediums. Swing by and see what the people who are helping you out and doing.

Golden Artist Colors Lecture/Demo

This 1 1/2 - 2hr. lecture/demo is an educational workshop about various types of paints, unusual gels, mediums, grounds and varnishes. Valuable info about paint quality, viscosity, watercolor and oil-like paints, unique grounds and textures to work on, slow drying “OPEN” pigment, and acrylic grounds for digital printing, will be introduced at this event.

Passport & Palette Series presents: “Conversations with the Artist”

December 8th, 2009 at 3PM and 4pm

3PM: Joe Anna Arnett enjoys sharing her love of painting and her techniques with students
in workshops in the United States and around the world. Arnett frequently exhibits in
museum shows and her original work is widely colected. One of her favorite quotes
about her teaching experience is, “Nothing is truly yours until you give it away.”
4PM: James Asher approaches watercolor with a boldness and attention to detail rarely
seen today. A traditionalist, Asher is mindful of the philosophy of being true to nature in
the creation of his paintings. His work is represented in museum colections and has
been shown at the Royal Watercolor Society in London.
