Time & Temp at the Art & Culture Center of Hollywood

A survey of some of South Florida’s leading up-and-coming painters. The show officially opened on the 16th but the opening reception will be this Friday from 6-9pm. Come by to get a primer of the exciting local painting scene just before this season’s Art Basel.

Small Stuff 3 at Bear & Bird Gallery
A cash and carry show of a handful of local artists. All work is sold first come, first served, and goes home the same day so you need to get in early to see the whole show. Included among the artists is Danny Brito. Danny was the first place winner in our Halloween BOOtique art show last month.
Opening brunch reception Sunday November 22, 1-4pm.

Celebrate the holidays in style with Utrecht Fort Lauderdale and make you own Strathmore Artist Trading Cards (ATC) to Show & Swap.

Join us December 18^th for our “Swap Meet” event and opening. This is a great excuse to get together during the holiday season and meet new local artists, and make some new friends too.

Eligibility:

· Open to the public.

· ATC Artwork must be appropriate for all ages.

· All ATC artwork must be dry when submitted.

· ATC Artwork must be hand delivered to the store by the artist.

· All ATC artwork submitted must be an original created on a “Strathmore Artist Trading Card”.

· Artist Trading Card “Swap Meet” and Opening will start Friday, December 18, 2009 at 7pm

· Utrecht Art Supplies FTL management reserves the right to reject submitted ATC artwork. This is non-negotiable. Utrecht Art Supplies is not responsible for any ATC artwork that may become lost or damaged before, during, and/or after the event.

Submission Guidelines:

· Artists may submit up to 6 cards. A $5 entry fee includes a pack of Strathmore Trading Cards of your choice, plus your submission of up to 3 cards. (Cash preferred) You may swap as many cards as you wish at the “Swap Meet”

· Actual ATC artwork is to be submitted to Utrecht Art Supplies Ft. Lauderdale during normal store hours on the dates listed.

· You will be supplied with entry forms when you submit your artwork.

· Do not frame or mount your ATC artwork. Hanging will be provided for this show.

Prizes:

· There will be three prizes given out during the opening reception in the form of ArtSmart Gift Cards. 1^st prize $25, 2^nd prize $20, 3^rd prize $15, and Popular Vote prize $10.

Judging process:

· Entries will be judged by a selection of local artists.

Important Dates:

- December 14th – Last day to submit ATC artwork.

- December 17th – Last day to pick up rejected pieces.

- December 18th – “Swap Meet” starts at 7pm

- January 15th – Last day of exhibition.

- January 16th - Start picking up ATC artwork.

- January 23rd – Last day to pick up ATC artwork. All ATC artwork must be picked up by this date. Utrecht FTL is not responsible for any ATC artwork not picked up by January 23^rd, 2010.

UNDERSTANDING CONTEMPORARY OIL PAINTING MATERIALS:

Glenn Brill, Artist Representative for Gamblin Artist’s Colors, will present a practical,
hands-on educational presentation on Gamblin Oil Colors. This 90 minute presentation will
cover all aspects of oil paints, mediums and varnishes, including:
Color Theory and Practical Color Mixing
Navigating Color Space
Mineral vs. Modern Pigments
Understanding Color Names
Oil Paint Manufacturing
Professional Grade Oil Paint vs. Student Grade Oil Paint
Mediums and Varnishes
Indirect vs. Direct Painting Techniques
Supports, Sizing and Grounds
Studio Safety
The goal of the presentation is not only to educate participants on oil paints but to provide
information that will enable attendees to create their own personalized palette.
All attendees will receive FREE Gamblin Product & Literature Samples.

About the Presenter:
Glenn Brill has presented over 300 educational presentations throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia.
Currently an Adjunct Professor at San Francisco State University, Glenn has also taught at California
College of the Arts, San Francisco Art Institute and University of California @ Hayward. Glenn has
been involved in art material product development and education for over 15 years. He has worked
for some of the premier art material companies as Director of Education, helping to develop and
test oil and acrylic paints, brushes, canvas, paper, and drawing materials. Glenn has been the
recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts Visual Fellowships, Author of “Beyond the Brush”
and co-author of “The Acrylic Handbook”. His artworks are in the permanent collections of the
Archives of American Art, Brooklyn Museum, San Jose Museum and Phoenix Art Museum. Glenn holds
a BFA from the California College of Arts and Crafts, an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and is a
Tamarind Master Printer. His work can be viewed at www.glennbrill.com.
